Not So Quiet...: Stepdaughters of War - Helen Zenna Smith

What's really getting to me in this book is the sense of claustrophobia (more so because they spend a lot of time in the open countryside) and focus on petty behaviour, and pointless tasks, and descriptions of sheer exhaustion.

It very much emphasises the madness of the whole situation.

 

It's quite an odd book in a way, but it works very well as a companion piece to All Quiet...
