Colonel Bostock had drawn an upright chair to the far side of the writing table. It had arms upon which he rested his elbows. As far as it is possible to lean back in a chair of that kind, he leaned.

There is much to like about Wentworth's writing in this, but, golly, I am finding it hard to keep interested in this story.
