Equal Rites - Terry Pratchett

Granny had heard that broomsticks were once again very much the fashion among younger witches, but she didn’t hold with it. There was no way a body could look respectable while hurtling through the air aboard a household implement. Besides, it looked decidedly draughty.

But this was no time for respectability.

The first part of the book really is all about introducing the Ramtops and its witch(es). I forgot how slow the first part of the book reads.

But, we do get a great introduction to headology and borrowing and the way of the witch...and how bees are magic, which are all things that will play a role in the subsequent witches books.
