Of all the books I have ever read, there are only four that I hated with a passion. There are lot more books that didn't work for me or that were really stupid, but there really only are very few that really still make me regret even having read them - and between those few, this one just beats Fall of Giants (Ken Follett) to the punch:
Here lies The Book Thief,
Whose compulsion to be original
ended in death by cliche.
