This is a book that came without recommendation, ended up on my Kindle on a whim, and turned out to be quite a rewarding read. 

As the sub-title suggests Offbeat is a collection of short stories, some of which are quirky, and some which are instantly forgettable - as is the same with most short story collections: some stories are just more appealing than others.

The ones I liked best in this one are:

A Helping Hand

A Life In The Day

Anyway, this is light reading for a lazy Sunday.
