The Daughter Of Time - Josephine Tey

Ha. I like Alan Grant. I like Alan Grant a lot. But I also like how Tey does not make him into a "perfect" character. He's got flaws, and she pokes fun at him. 

 

Grant's pre-occupation with face-reading made me laugh. 

 

There is a part in Miss Pym Disposes which also makes fun of the same obsession about face-reading in the mystery genre of the time, and now I am wondering if this snipped from Miss Pym's thoughts was another precursor to Tey sending up Grant in The Daughter of Time:

 

Eyebrows that sent people to the stake.

Yes, she would write a book about face-reading. Under another name, of course. Face-reading was not well seen among the intelligentsia.
