So, this is exciting. Sort of. Lyrics Alley is my library book group's pick for November.

Many of my group members are fans of Leila Aboulela's work, and have attended author events with her (she used to live and write in Aberdeen).  I have certainly been intrigued by her books but haven't so far ventured into picking one up as there has always been something in the book description that has put me off.

I guess now is the time to find out what her books are about. :)

Oh, and because this story is set in Khartoum and Cairo, I will use the book for the book task of the Kwanzaa square/door:

Door 21: Dec. 26 – Kwanzaa

Book: Read a book set in Africa or the Caribbean, by an African, Caribbean, or African-American author, with a green, red, or black cover, or with crops of the earth or a native African animal on the cover (lion, giraffe, cheetah, etc.).

Btw, the cover shown in the post is not the cover of the edition I have, but I prefer this one. It looks less like chick-lit than the edition I have.
